Configure and manage alert policies

Microsoft 365 Messaging is a powerful tool that helps organizations streamline their email communication and collaboration. As part of the Microsoft 365 suite, it offers various features and functionalities to ensure efficient messaging and email management. One of the key aspects of managing messaging in Microsoft 365 is the ability to configure and manage alert policies. In this article, we will explore how to configure and manage alert policies in Microsoft 365 Messaging.

Step 1: Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center

To configure and manage alert policies in Microsoft 365 Messaging, sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center using your administrator account.

Step 2: Navigate to the Security & Compliance Center

In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, click on the “Admin centers” dropdown menu at the left-hand side of the admin center homepage and select “Security & Compliance” to navigate to the Security & Compliance Center.

Step 3: Access the Alert Policies

Within the Security & Compliance Center, click on “Alert policies” under the “Threat management” section to access the alert policies page.

Step 4: Customize Predefined Alert Policies

On the Alert policies page, you will find a list of predefined alert policies that cover a wide range of security and compliance areas, such as malware detection, suspicious email activity, data loss prevention, and more. To customize a predefined policy, select the policy you want to modify and click on the “Edit policy” button. This will open the policy settings page.

Step 5: Configure Policy Settings

For instance, you can choose to send an email notification to the administrator, block the message, or quarantine it for further investigation.

Step 6: Specify Alert Trigger Conditions

Step 7: Save the Modifications

Once you have made the necessary changes, click on the “Save” button to apply the modifications to the alert policy.

Step 8: Create a New Alert Policy

If you need to create a new alert policy from scratch, click on the “New policy” button on the Alert policies page. This will open the policy creation wizard, where you can provide a name and description for the new policy. Specify the severity level, notification recipients, and other relevant actions similar to the steps mentioned above. After configuring the policy settings, click on the “Save” button to create the new alert policy.

Step 9: Manage Existing Alert Policies

To manage existing alert policies, use the “Enable” and “Disable” options. Enabling a policy ensures that it is active and actively monitoring the messaging environment for alerts. Disabling a policy stops monitoring without deleting the policy, allowing you to reactivate it later if needed.

Step 10: Search and Filter Alert Policies

Use the search and filter options on the Alert policies page to find specific policies based on name, description, or other attributes.

Step 11: Regularly Review and Update

Regularly review and update your alert policies to align with changing security and compliance requirements within your organization.
