Configure and Manage Quarantine Policies in Microsoft 365 Messaging

Configuring Quarantine Policies

1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance Center using your administrative credentials.
2. Navigate to the Threat management > Policy > Anti-spam page.
3. On the Anti-spam settings page, click on the Quarantine tab.
4. Here, you can create a new quarantine policy or modify an existing one. Click on the “+” button to create a new policy.
5. Give your policy an appropriate name and provide a description that helps identify its purpose. For example, you can name it “High-Risk Attachments” if the policy focuses on quarantining emails with potentially harmful attachments.
6. Under the “Settings” section, define the criteria for quarantining emails. You can configure rules based on the sender, recipient, subject, keywords, message size, attachment type, and more. Use the available options to fine-tune your policy according to your organization’s requirements.
7. Once you have configured the rules, you can further specify the actions to be taken when matching emails are found. You can choose to quarantine the message, redirect it, deliver it and prepend the subject line with a disclaimer, or simply reject it.
8. Don’t forget to define the quarantine retention duration. This determines how long the emails will be retained in the quarantine before being automatically deleted.
9. Save the policy to apply the configuration.

Managing Quarantine Policies

1. From the Anti-spam settings > Quarantine tab in the Security & Compliance Center, select the quarantine policy you want to manage.
2. Under the “Settings” section, you can modify the criteria and actions defined in the policy. Make necessary changes and save them to update the policy.
3. To review quarantined emails, click on the “Review” button. This will take you to the Quarantine page, where you can see a list of emails that match the policy rules.
4. From this page, you can select individual emails or multiple emails and take appropriate actions like releasing, deleting, or reporting them as false positives.
5. You can also perform advanced searches to filter quarantined emails based on specific criteria such as sender, recipient, subject, or date range.
6. Regularly review the quarantine logs and adjust the policy rules as needed to ensure optimal protection without blocking legitimate emails.
